Hello. My name is Melissa

…and I’ve been coaching, mentoring and supporting people pretty much my entire life.

It began in high school when I became involved in a Peer Counseling program, which was a challenging but very gratifying experience. This led me to a Psychology degree at Virginia Tech, where I held leadership roles in the student union and other university councils. From there I found my way to a career in Human Resources in a role that enabled me to assist and coach employees on a regular basis.

After ten years I decided I was ready for a new challenge, so I relocated to the south and went into my family’s construction business. It was a fairly radical change from the corporate world, but my psychology experience was still put to good use. A family business has its own unique challenges (hello, complicated family dynamics) and I appreciated the opportunity to apply the principles of human resources in a whole new way.

My life took another sharp turn when I decided to shift away from the business world entirely and transition into the world of health and wellness. “Who goes into a fitness career in their forties?”, you might ask. That would be me!

It started by becoming a Certified Pilates Instructor in 2011 and then, five years later, adding Certified Holistic Life and Executive Coach to my resume. After more than twenty-five years supporting and encouraging individuals along their path to wellness and wholeness in a variety of settings, I made it official when I launched Be Present Coaching.

Be Present Coaching is about the courage it takes to show up as your best and highest self in any situation, but most especially the ones that are in alignment with your most meaningful life. I believe in the power of setting intentions and in the magic that happens when we spend time in the presence of our dreams. I look forward to hearing all about yours.

“My practice is about holding space and listening.

My intention is to empower you to create your future.

My mission is to be present.”
